Mt. Athabasca ascent!

Ascending the AA Col route on Mt. Athabasca.

Two of the participants from the Glacier Travel Course, Pat & Susie, stayed on Monday for an ascent of Mt. Athabasca. The weather was poor so we got an extra early start and actually began the climb in light rain. By the time we reached the glacier on the AA Col route, the rain had turned to snow. Travel conditions were good but visibility was very poor and most of the day was spent in a whiteout. Pat & Susie did an excellent job and it was actually really fun being out in such wild conditions. As we neared the summit, the clouds finally parted and we were treated to an amazing view of the surrounding peaks sticking through the clouds. After a few minutes on top we began the descent and were once again in a whiteout. Despite the weather it turned out to be a great day out in the mountains!
