Ice climbing, rock climbing, & lots and lots of walking!

It's been a few weeks since my last update, but the main theme in that time has been driving around and walking long distances looking for ice. Despite many days of taking my gear for a walk I've also managed to get a few really good days of climbing in.

Highlights have been:
  • "The Doors of Perception" (III M5+ 400m), a purely drytooling line on Loder Peak with Ross Berg.

  • Drytooling at "The Playground" with Chris Delworth & Andy Adamson.

  • Rock climbing on Yamnuska in zero degree temps. Yesterday I climbed "The Diving Board" (5.11b, 125m) with Eammon Walsh and Scott Withers.

  • The best trip however was putting up a new ice route behind Mt. Murchison with Eammon Walsh & Steve Holeczi. See next posting for details and pics.

  • I won't bother listing all the places I've walked and/or driven too in the last few weeks on the quest for ice. Let's just say that most routes need some time yet!

  1. There was a huge controversy on Gravsports about the Doors of Perception. Did the bolts get chopped or are they still available?

  2. Bolts are still there.
Only some of the sections are bolted, I would say that about 60% of the climbing is gear protected, including some of the trickier sections.
It could certainly be done without the bolts, this would turn an otherwise mellow route into a more challenging day.
