Yamnuska & Castle Mtn with Shaun

Shaun from Manitoba, who also took the intro rock course 2 weeks ago, came back on Thursday & Friday for some multipitch and alpine rock climbing.

Climbing the first pitch on the West End of Yamnuska.

On Thursday we raced up a route on the west end of Yamnuska. It was his first multipitch climb but he picked up the skills really quickly and climbed strong. The skies were threatening all day but it never rained too much, just a few drops on pitch 5 and 6.

Shaun belaying far below on one of Eisenhower Tower's long pitches.

Friday we got up early and headed into the Eisenhower Tower route on Castle Mountain. Again the weather looked bleak but ended up being just fine. The climb & descent went smoothly and all of the rock was dry. This is one of my favourite climbs at this level and both Shaun and I had a fun day out!

I think Shaun is hooked on mountaineering and he plans on completing a number of other scrambles and climbs throughout the summer.
