During the last weekend in June, 4 members of the 1st Slave Lake Ventures group ,with Scouts Canada, made the drive down to the Bow Valley for 2 days of rock climbing fun and training. Only the group leader had rock climbed before but all of them did an excellent job of picking up the skills and were soon having lots of fun scaling the walls, belaying, and rappelling!
On the Saturday we went out to Wasootch and learned all the basic skills needed to climb safely and successfully. Everyone climbed like mad and I think we all got more climbing in than anyone else at the crag! For the second day we headed into a different area where we again climbed a ton as well as learning more rope work skills and did some rappelling.
It was a fun weekend and everyone left keen to do more climbing in the future!
